Coaching Philosophy:
I believe in protagonism, having the initiative, trying to play the game in the opponent’s half, having the ball, recovering possession quickly, and preventing the opponent from disrupting our play and having possession. All these are what you see with protagonism, the opposite of playing on the counterattack, ceding the initiative, discarding the values of the game. For me, our energies need to be focused on creating play as a collective group and not on taking advantage of our opponent’s mistakes. All this makes up one way of interpreting the game, and personally, it is the only one I enjoy.
In order to coach players that can play this way, it is important not to prioritize winning, but instead developing skilled and creative players with self-confidence. I try to never tell youth players what pass to make or where to position themselves, but instead teach technique and understanding of the principle’s of the game, allowing them to experiment and assess their own decisions. Feedback focuses not on criticizing and correcting a player’s decision, but on making a player evaluate their own decision and come to discoveries naturally.

Player experience: I have played soccer for the best part of 13 years since I was 7. I played for my college back in the UK, Myerscough College (2005 – 2009) for 4 years as a goalkeeper. Prior to that I also played club soccer for Hoole United Football Club (2005 – 2006) for a total period of 1 season. My favourite years as a player came when I played for Gregson Lane Football Club (1996 – 2005) who are my local youth team for a total of 7 years; I played at both Centre Midfield and Goalkeeper for this team.
Coaching experience: I have been coaching soccer for 6 years. I have previously coaches here in the USA and in the UK for a few companies.
